Friday we conclude a three-week period of fasting here at Hope Chapel. My earnest hope is that you will join us for Friday’s evening of extended worship from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
I am tempted toward the end of a period of fasting to stop early, to throw in the towel and call it ‘done.’ My experience tells me this outcome is unsatisfactory. Let me be the first one to encourage you to remain true to your vow of self-denial all the way to the end.
Fasting teaches us that we depend on God for our sustenance. I believe it also sensitizes us to the presence of God in our lives. My expectation is that our time of worship will be energized not only by physical nourishment, but also by the confidence of a vow kept to the end as well as a heightened sensitivity to God’s presence.
See you on Friday.
